Heist tights review: Why they're worth every penny
While tights are the perfect winter warmer on chilly days when you want to layer up beneath dresses, finding the right pair is a headache.
Some bobble after one wash, others ladder the second you pull them up and the worst feeling of all? Tight, bunched up fabric at the waist that leaves you feeling squeezed in all the wrong places and with unsightly red marks on your stomach.
These were all issues I kept having with the cheap and cheerful multipacks I would inevitably buy, then re-buy, every winter. So much so, I ditched wearing them all together.
Then I came across Heist, a shapewear and underwear brand. I've long been a fan of its now discontinued (sob) non-wired, buttery soft underwear (I own several sets) and always set my alarms for its annual sale. A friend implored me to try out its tights – her exact words were, "They are the greatest tights I've ever worn" so I added a pair of its 80 denier tights to my basket.
That was over two years ago and I can confirm they are in fact, the greatest tights I've ever worn. Tights aren't something to get excited by, but this pair is so good, they don't roll down or sag, they're more comfortable than my pyjama bottoms (yes really) and the built-in shapewear is the icing on the cake. I'll recommend them to anyone who will listen.
This Morning's Holly Willoughby is also a fan, having worn them on the breakfast show in 2021 and 2022, so I'm in good company. They're not cheap, but they're hands down the best clothing investment I've ever made.
If you buy only one item for your winter wardrobe this year, make it a pair of Heist tight. Here's why I think they're worth every penny.
£30 at Heist
Sheer tights have never been my thing, mostly because I'm likely to rip the fabric putting them on in a hurry, so I own a pair of the 80 denier tights, which are totally opaque.
The seamless design and super flattering waistband is what sold me with on this pair. The high waist is a luxurious double-covered yarn that instantly smooths, and feels exactly like shapewear without the constrictive feeling. Instead, it's immediately comfortable and sits beautifully under form-fitting dresses and tops.
It doesn't dig into my waist, sag, roll down or go bobbly, even with 12 hours of wear and washing them hundreds of times.
The legs feel super-soft, and the shorts-like panelling at the top of the thighs mean the fabric doesn't stretch but stays opaque.
I love how they look, and more importantly how I feel in them. When I wear them they feel like my best-kept secret – to you, they look like a regular pair of black tights, for me they're the most comfortable piece of clothing I own.
I won't go a winter without them, and while I won't lie, I balked at the price initially, I've since binned all my other pairs and now exclusively wear these.
