SUFIX 832 BRAID ADVANCED SUPERLINE - The Fisherman
Six years in development, the combination of GORE’s expertise in advanced materials used extensively by the US military and NASA, and Sufix’s capability and know-how with fishing lines and their new R8 Precision Braiding Technology, has created Sufix 832 Braid, one of the most advanced technical fishing lines to hit the marketplace. Sufix 832 is comprised of three main technology features. The first is Dyneema fibers, which contribute to the small diameter, high strength and sensitivity of the fishing line. The GORE performance fiber adds improved abrasion resistance, noise and vibration reduction, along with improved casting length and accuracy. Lastly, the R8 Precision Braiding and fiber technology add superior strength, roundness and line consistency.
GORE has one of the best rope testers in the world. Using this rope tester time after time, Sufix 832 with GORE fiber technology performed better than all of the competition, retaining 95 percent of its rated strength throughout the torture tests. Formulated with eight fibers (seven Dyneema and one GORE) and with 32 weaves per inch, Sufix 832 is the only fishing line to combine both Dyneema and GORE (ePTFE) fibers into one finished product. According to factory tests, the composition of these two fibers coming together creates the strongest, most abrasion-resistant, fastest-sinking, UV-protected, roundest fishing line currently on the market. Sufix 832 features the highest knot and tensile strength to diameter, the roundest profile of any fishing line and improved durability and abrasion resistance. Anglers will immediately notice longer, more consistent casting in part due to the reduced friction, high sensitivity, low stretch and quiet, low vibration when casting.
One of the primary reasons to spool up your fave inshore or offshore reel with any of the new wave of Dyneema or Spectra superlines is to get the added strength of the strong-but-thin braid with a dramatically increased line capacity. As detailed earlier, Sufix 832 delivers on this expectation with a pattern that works seven Spectra fibers and one GORE fiber in a proprietary stranding process that creates 32 weaves per inch. This process constructs a braided fishing line with an exceptionally small diameter, superior strength and abrasion resistance, enhanced knot strength, plus consistent roundness throughout the spool.
Sufix 832 is currently offered in three colors, specifically Low-Vis Green, High-Vis Neon Lime and Ghost White. It is available in both 150- and 300-yard spools in all three colors, and in 600-yard spools in Low-Vis Green. The specs of the current Sufix 832 offerings are as follows:
Sufix 832 Pound-Test Line Diameter (inches/mm) Sufix 832 Equivalent Diameter to Mono Line 6 .006”/.14mm 2-lb 10 .008”/.20mm 4-lb 20 .009”/.23mm 6-lb 30 .011”/.29mm 8-lb 40 .013”/.33mm 10-lb 50 .014”/.34mm 12-lb 65 .016”/.40mm 17-lb 80 .018”/.45mm 20-lb As you can clearly see from the chart, Sufix 832 is a micro-thin braid that is roughly four times the strength of equivalent diameter monofilament fishing line, with none of the stretch, for improved feel when bouncing a sinker on the bottom in deep water or working a plug in the rips, with instant hooksets.
I spooled up a new Penn Fathom 25N high-speed jigging reel with a base of 75 yards of 50-pound mono, a middle load of 300 yards of 50-pound Sufix Low-Vis Green 832 Braid and then a top-shot of 25 feet of Quattro Plus four-color camo mono on the business end of the outfit as my easily replaceable wind-on leader. This is my primary tool for jigging bass in November and December as the fish migrate along the beaches in the 30- to 80-foot depths.
The samples of Sufix 832 that I have tested to date have been everything that they were hyped up to be. I have been getting excellent distances on my casts with the aforementioned Penn Fathom 25N reel as well as my Penn 975 International baitcaster (spooled with 300 yards of 40-pound Sufix 832 Braid). Knot strength with the usual braid connections (Palomar, Uni-Knot, three-turn Spider Hitch and Albright/Lock) have been excellent, with no critical breaks at inopportune moments. After some initial short-term use, the Sufix 832 I have tested has exhibited no fraying or shape shifting, which is not always the case when I have put some competitive braid lines through a similarly intense workout. Sufix 832 Braid is a quality product with an MSRP of $21.99 for a 150-yard spool and $39.99 for a 300-yard spool. Is it worth it? That choice is up to you, but if you demand the best in an ever-changing and crowded field of superbraid fishing lines, you should give Sufix 832 a shot and make that determination for yourself. Sufix is a proven fishing line manufacturer with some great products used worldwide.
