UPDATE: Police presence on Fancy Gap Highway in Carroll County cleared

UPDATE 4/22 at 12:07 P.M. (WFXR) — After hours of Fancy Gap Highway being shut down due to a criminal investigation, all north and south lanes reopened on Friday night.
According to the Carroll County Sheriff's Office, several law enforcement agencies including the Virginia State Police and the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources responded to assist with the incident.

UPDATE 3:21 P.M. (WFXR) — Sheriff Kemp with the Carroll County Sheriff's Office says a portion of the US 52 Fancy Gap Highway near the Fancy Gap Mountain area is temporarily closed due to a criminal investigation.
According to the Virginia Department of Transportation, all north and south lanes are closed at this time. All southbound traffic is being diverted onto Interstate 77 South at Exit 8, and northbound traffic is being diverted onto Interstate 77 North at Exit 1. Drivers traveling in this area are encouraged to seek alternative routes and avoid this area at this time.
Additionally, the Carroll County Public School (CCPS) bus routes will be affected and will use alternative routes. CCPS advises parents and guardians to expect delays during student drop-offs.
Sheriff Kemp says there is no active threat to the community.
