Here's Why 'Manifest' Won't Be Getting a Season 5 After All

Aug 20, 2023

You know those shows that sound kinda ~out there~ when you first hear about them, but then you finally put an episode on—probably because your BFF or mom or coworker won't shut up about it—and by the end of it, you're completely hooked. Welp, that's Manifest.

I'll be the first to admit that some of the acting is a little cheesy, but when I tell you that everything from the concept to the episode plots to the characters has you wanting to binge-watch every season, I mean it. And if you've somehow managed to get through life without seeing it yet, I *highly* encourage you to immediately drop all of your responsibilities and fire up Netflix 'cause, you may not know it yet, but there's an airplane-shaped hole in your heart that needs to be filled.

The fourth season of the supernatural show just finished airing, and fans are already in mourning because (and I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news here!) season 4 is the final season. That's right, we won't be getting a Manifest season 5. Cue the funeral music! If you're curious about how such a tragedy could happen, here's everything we know about Manifest not getting a fifth season.

In case you forgot, Manifest originally aired on NBC for three seasons before it was abruptly canceled, leaving fans on a major cliffhanger. The TV gods worked their magic though, because the show was added to Netflix and surged in popularity so much that the streaming giant decided to renew the show for a fourth and final season.

Netflix never said exactly why they chose to only renew the show for one more season, which is kinda interesting considering (1) how popular the show's first three seasons were when they were added to Netflix and (2) the fact that the show's creators originally planned for six seasons. As our lord and savior Kris Jenner would say, this is a case for the FBI!

The first half of season 4 came out on Netflix on November 4, giving fans access to 10 of the season's 20 episodes, and the final 10 were just dropped on Netflix on June 2. It's the longest out of any Manifest season, so I guess we should really just be grateful for what we're getting??

If it's been saved once before, it can be saved again, right? RIGHT?! Well, I hate to be the one to say it but...it doesn't seem likely. Not only because season 4 is being advertised all over the damn place as the final season, but also because the creators had a planned arc that doesn't leave me feeling hopeful. They had to write season 4 assuming it was their last, so tacking on a season 5 would disrupt the new series finale.

Melissa Roxburgh, who plays Micaela, even said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter that she initially found out how the show was going to end back in season 3 when they filmed some scenes that were meant to be used in the final season. And although the ultimate fate of those scenes are a huge question mark, it definitely sounds like the general idea for the ending stayed the same, which leaves doubt for any future seasons. At least we can enjoy season 4!
