V Rising Secrets of Gloomrot Update: Full Patch Notes Listed

May 20, 2023

A new big patch has arrived for V Rising Early Access Period. Secrets of Gloomrot is the first major update for the game dropping exactly on its anniversary. The game has since amassed a huge following of vampire aspirants in this universe, and they now have even more things to do in the game.

This was basically a whole new game compressed into a single patch, so you might wanna take some good time off if you really want to go through all of it. Here's the full patch notes for the V Rising: Secrets of Gloomrot update.

Several systems in the engine have been reworked and restructured to enable all new features in this patch as well as to generally improve performance and stability. There may be new types of issues for specific hardware that can arise due to these massive changes but in general, the game should run better on the vast majority of setups.

When starting/joining a game for the first time we now pre-warm a number of shaders. This will result in a longer loading time during this first startup. This change should lead to a lot fewer stutters/freezes when encountering new content (units, spells, etc) for the first time.

The experience of connecting to servers with a lot of players should be improved due to many optimizations regarding networked objects. There are now fewer objects being synced when you connect to a server and as a result, you will be able to start playing quicker.

The responsiveness of certain spells and abilities has been reduced due to removing frame delays when reacting to objects/spells being spawned or destroyed, thus making combat overall more fluent and responsive.

Players may now freely build staircases allowing you to build a castle on multiple floors. Players may build up to 3 floors or 4 floors in areas that have terrain height differences. This is the default server setting but may be increased up to 6 floors on private servers.

Major parts of the world have been updated with new topology to support multiple floors as well as a new way of claiming your land through the Territory system. You no longer claim land by placing individual borders but instead claim the entirety of a region by placing your Castle Heart in the available space.

Territories also pave the way for a number of possible expansions/improvements for the future. This addition is a stepping stone towards something more.

The build menu has been updated with a new layout, functionality and with better categorization of objects to allow players to more easily navigate the menu and build their castle.

Select objects can now be dyed in different colors. This includes torches, carpets, windows, select furniture, and more. Changing the color of an item does not cost any extra material. You may also edit the color of objects placed in your castle via a color wheel.

Some objects such as planters, trellises, vases, and flowers are now more modular allowing you to place one object on top of another to fuse them.

Planting seeds now requires a growing plot. A number of growing plots of varying sizes and looks are now available for both interior and exterior use.

By interacting with the Castle Heart, players may now abandon their castle. Losing ownership puts the castle in decay. This will be useful when moving to new territory on servers with castle limitations and/or when you just want to get rid of your castle.

By interacting with their own Castle Heart, players may now expose a castle for up to 5 minutes. Any player may claim the castle when it is exposed (the current owner as well). Useful to transfer ownership of a castle from one player to another.

The castle heart may now be upgraded up to level 5 from the previous maximum, level 4. The default bonuses for each level are as follows:

The following new decorative and structural items have been added:

With the addition of territories and multiple floors, we’ve added additional features to improve and balance PvP Castle Raiding.

To avoid scenarios where players build massive snake-like labyrinths across multiple floors to stash away their treasures and to block any attempt of a raid, we’ve added a new castle heart interaction to discourage certain castle designs and honeycomb builds (at least on your second and third floor).

The win condition for Castle PvP will be mostly about reaching the Castle Heart on the bottom floor (similar to servers that allow destruction and/or conquering of enemy castles using keys).

With this addition, we also hope that players will be more encouraged to use their additional build space to build a more convenient space on their second and third floors.

By reaching a player's castle heart on a normal PvP server players may now temporarily disable the castle defenses for 10 minutes by spending one castle key of the correct level. In this state, the following occur:

This action has a cooldown of 30 minutes to discourage players from re-triggering this state over and over again for griefing purposes.

To improve the game feel and to ensure that PvP within castles is more balanced we’ve reworked how travel spells and target AoEs function (especially around the castle).

Travel spells now visually allow players to travel the full height regardless if there's a floor above you or not within a castle – you will however land on the current floor that you are aiming at.

You can use travel spells across railings allowing you to jump from one floor to another or between floors on the same floor. You can however never jump from a lower floor to an upper floor (unless you are standing in a staircase).

All target area spells are blocked by railings to prevent players from attacking enemies from an upper floor to a lower level floor.

There are now diminishing returns on crowd control effects in PvP affecting Freeze, Incapacitate, and Fear. Each time a player is hit by a crowd control effect the duration is reduced. The player may become immune if hit by several effects in a short amount of time. The immunity wears out after 10s.

The entire world has been modified to enable the new castle territory feature, to improve progression flow and to include new bosses and loot.

A new level 58-60 biome.

Locations

V Bloods

New Units

New Level 74-83 Biome. Adds a new environmental hazard ‘Lightning Storm’. Lightning strikes down in the area dealing damage. Vegetation catches fire if hit by a lightning bolt. The intensity of lightning storms vary from location to location within the biome.

V Bloods

New Units

The game-view camera has been tweaked allowing players to tilt it ~10% more. This increase affects how far the player can see. This change allows players to more clearly see units and objects on top of ramps/stairs thus reducing the advantage players may have when defending a castle or a slope.

The world of Vardoran is getting bigger and to better allow players to travel to different destinations we’ve increased the useability of some travel mechanics.

Once unlocked you may now dominate a horse to turn it into a Vampire Horse. A Vampire Horse does not require water, can be revived and recalled to your location and has the ability to jump across objects using "Space".

You may also equip saddles on Dominated mounts to further boost their stats.

The following items no longer block players from using waygates or batform:

You may now build local teleporters by matching two teleporters of the same color within your castle to allow you to quickly travel between different rooms and/or floors.

Vampire voices have been added for the male and female versions. Vampire voices add a layer of feedback for specific interactions and triggers and should help the player to better understand certain actions, triggers, limits, errors, and events.

Vampire voices can be turned off in the Options menu.

To improve the balance and to generally make combat feel good and rewarding when fighting both solo and together with a group we have reworked the system that scales enemy health.

Enemy units now scale more dynamically, increasing and decreasing in health as players join, die, or leave a fight.

Unit scaling now also includes normal units and not only V Bloods.

Fighting together should be both fun and rewarding, units killed will now also have a chance to drop additional loot that scales with the number of players. With these changes, we hope to incentivize players to keep playing together rather than to visit different locations solo.

Using allied buffs from afar on a player fighting a unit will now trigger health scaling as if that player was also participating in the fight.

The player may now unlock access to two new weapon types, The Greatsword, and the Dual Pistols. Recipes are unlocked by defeating specific V Blood bosses detailed in the ‘Progression Update’ section.

Players may now find and craft ‘Jewels’ adding additional perks to a spell. You can equip one jewel on each of the 36 standard abilities (including veils) but not for ultimate spells. The number of available modifications for each spell differs between 5-10 depending on the spell. Each perk can come in varying strengths.

There are three tiers of jewels, each tier adds one additional perk to the spell up to a total of three (3). Each tier increases the possible roll for the perk modifiers as well.

Jewels will drop from units, and breakables and can be found in chests, storages, and treasure chests.

Players may now find, craft and restore ancestral weapons using the ‘Ancestral Forge’. Ancestral Weapons can be obtained at tier 6 and tier 8. Ancestral Weapons add an additional weapon level along with additional secondary stats that are randomized. An ancestral weapon also modifies the ‘Q’ ability of your weapon so that it applies to one of the six spell school effects when striking an enemy.

Most magic sources have been updated with new art for icons and with new names for more consistency. The secondary stat bonuses of T6+ Magic sources have been rebalanced.

T7+ Magic Sources now always reduce blood drain by 15%

The ‘Blood Key’ Magic source has had its level reduced to the same level as T8 magic sources and now instead grants +25% Blood Drain reduction and +75 Sun Resistance. This item is intended to be more a symbol of power for completing all Journal Quests (for now…), not a contender for best magic source. The overlay effect of having this item equipped has been toned down.

Crossbows are no longer crafted from Woodworking Table, Crossbows are now crafted in the same manner as all other weapon types.

Set Bonuses and Gear Level have been tweaked for some weapons and armor sets most notably:

To balance out the additional power and generally increased damage from the additions of Ancestral Weapons and Jewels in PvP, the total amount of health granted by armors has been significantly increased (primarily towards the end game sets). Damage output from units in PvE has been tuned to not offset the PvE balance. Generally, these balance changes will result in a bit bigger numbers for health and damage across the board, more noticeable in the endgame.

Weapons and Armors now lose less durability when used (about ~25% less).

In PvP (when killed by another player) all equipped items now lose 12.5% durability and are dropped upon death resulting in a more exact match corresponding to repair costs. (i.e picking up the items should allow you to repair the lost 12.5%, previously a lot of items did mismatch between repairs and item drops which should no longer be the case).

Players may now craft bags of various types allowing you to carry more items. Additional bag recipes are unlocked as you progress through the game.

There are a number of new materials and several changes to refinement recipes as well as visual updates to lots of icons for both items and recipes. This section outlines the biggest changes and additions.

The stacksize for several items have been updated, most items now have a higher stack size.

The crafting and refinement time for several items has been reduced or greatly reduced.

A lot of crafting recipes have been updated as well. In general a lot of changes aim to tune the entire journey from early to end game in a way where we remove item bottlenecks, diversify the locations you need to visit to gather items and to nail a good pace for player progression.

Several recipes have been added and/or rebalanced.

Server listing

In addition to the old Steam Server list, we have implemented a new solution that should improve the experience in the server list when there are a lot of servers active.

The "Mad Hunt" preset along with the server options to scramble V Blood locations and rewards have been temporarily disabled due to all changes within this update. We plan to reintroduce these settings at a later time.
